The novice to experienced bear maker.

About the Artist

Lisa is one of Australia's Leading Bear Artists and has been teaching bear making workshops for over 10 years. She has been designing her own range of bears for over 15 years.

Lisa trades under the name of Megelles - (pronounced 'megellees') named after her daughters Megan and Ellen.

Megelles started in 1996 and produces a limited number of bears each year as well as several new designs for bear makers.

Lisa was awarded a 2005 TOBY Industry Choice Award for her Bear "Joseph". Her work has featured in all the major Craft Magazines in Australia and her profile has been published in the 3 leading Australian craft and bear magazines.

About the workshop

Lisa will explain a multitude of different techniques to make your bear making a more enjoyable experience.

She will cover areas such as tracing, fabric choice, stuffing, fur direction, airbrushing, ear placement and noses. She will also include sewing machine techniques and, if time permits, dressing your bear.

Note that this workshop covers techniques only.

What you will do

You will make a bear head.

With many years of experience in teaching bear making, Lisa will guide you thru the finer points and also help iron out a few of those problem areas that you may be having.

Lisa will also demonstrate the techniques she uses to make her bears.

Please bring a sample or two of bear(s) that you have made recently and would like to improve. Lisa will be able to offer some ideas and hints to help you.

If there is a specific area of bear making that you would like covered, please contact Lisa to discuss.

What to bring

  • Basic bear making tools
  • 2 samples of bears that you have made recently
  • 1/8 m mohair
  • Stuffing
  • Thread to match
  • Strong thread and or sinew
  • Long needles - i.e. doll needles
  • Sharp scissors
